The Sun, The Moon and The Stars

My father, knowingly or unknowingly gave me the gift of awe and wonder as it relates to the sky and all the magic that she holds. The sun, the moon and especially the stars by far capture my attention before the elements such as the rain and wind and clouds.  I remember laying on the grass with my sisters or friends and even attempting it with my children.....playing the game of what you see in the shape of the clouds. I will reluctantly admit that I never could get completely immersed and engaged or maybe my imagination just couldn't muster up the shapes and tales and stories the clouds had to offer. However, the sun, moon and stars speak loudly and have much to say and have reached my imagination and my heart.

My fondest memories as a child are spending the evenings with my father and his telescope and attempting to learn about all the constellations and the stories that went with them and even the physics lessons he shared were intriguing when it came to the night sky. I find peace and comfort in the dark and light the night sky has to offer.  To think since long ago, people around the world have associated the heavens, the stars and the patterns in the sky with myths and stories relating to Gods and Goddesses from various cultures of long ago. Maybe it's the stories that are the most intriguing. All I know is that I love to sit under the stars, view the night sky, bask in the glory of the sun and feel the amazing power they all hold in the role they play in the universe, stories, myths, guidance, purpose, or beauty. Maybe they're there to wish on, possibly to give us something to shoot for, to fill the darkness with order and light, or just to offer beauty and grace. Regardless of your thoughts and feelings about the stars and the universe in which they shine.  One particular quote comes to mind.  "For my part I know nothing with any certainty but the sight of the stars makes me dream."
-- Vincent Van Gogh and who doesn't like to dream.......
