Year End Ramblings

I now find myself thinking about the fact that it's a new year and know that I will get asked by many people "what are your new year resolutions"? When I don't think in those terms. I ask myself questions more along the lines of, "how can I start this year off in a positive way", "what can I do so that I focus on the good things", "how can I make sure I'm living more in the light than the darkness".  I saw a question posted somewhere recently that made me decide to jot down a few notes. The question was. "What inspires YOU to focus on the good?" Now, my mind went in various of directions, but my first impulse was this....

Single words: light, sunshine, laughter, smiles, music, giving, service, kindness, family, friends.....then I read the question again and shifted my paradigm a bit and looked at it as what makes me "feel" good.  This time it was, limiting my activites and indulging in things that recharge my batteries such as immersing myself in silence (silence is bliss) so it was quiet time. It was simply closing my eyes, listening to the silence and allowing the stress to melt from my body. It was sitting on my swing, looking at the stars, listening to the soft sound of my fountain.  Allowing myself to just be, rather than feeling like I had to be doing something. It was curling up in my chair and reading a good book, taking a bubble bath, or being out in nature taking photographs.

In this ever changing, fast-paced world, we are often bombarded with sensory input from all directions. Televisions, computers, telephones, traffic, and of course people all demand our attention on a daily basis. While we may have grown use to these demands, occasionally I know I can feel overwhelmed and can benefit from embracing that restorative power of silence. Within moments, I feel my senses relax, my mind starts to clear, and the stress starts to vanish. Maybe if we take a moment to step back and breathe, we can all feel a little more peace and a little more balanced again.

Take time to relax today, and you can regain your strength so that you feel more positive and energized.

Don't get me wrong, I also realize that sometimes what makes me feel good is all about color, scents, textures, tastes and sounds. Indulging in delights from my mom's desserts to dancing to the music on the stereo while I'm making dinner, feeling the warmth of cozy pajamas, smelling scents that bring wonderful memories or looking at the colors in the sky as the sun rises and sets.

Enjoy the moment and think about what makes you feel good.
